Bonus Bucks Challenge
Time: Leg 6
Location: Nairobi, Kenya
Name: Sauti Changamoto (Sound Challenge) – Swahili
The goal of the game is to be the last team standing or have the most money remaining at the end.
The team that wins the game will earn all of the money contributed to the group kitty. The kitty will start at $500 (since 5 teams are remaining), and each participating team will add $100 to it.
At the beginning of the game, all teams will start with $100 in their challenge “account.”
At the beginning of the challenge, teams will be given a list of different answer choices. Then, in a series of “heats,” each for two competing teams, participating teams will be shown either pictures or a sequence of letters that can be sounded out to form words, which will point to one of the answer choices. If the first team to guess provides the right answer, then they win the heat. If the first team to guess provides an incorrect answer, then their opponents win the heat.
For example, in one round you might see:
(A picture of a button) + (A picture of a nose)
OR
The letters “B10NOO”
WHICH
Both mean “button nose,” which would point to “Frosty the Snowman” on the list of answer choices.
To start the game, a randomly selected team will be appointed as the first “challenger.” The challenger can name another team to compete against, and a bid for how much that round is worth (which must be less than or equal to the amount of money remaining in that team’s account). The team that is challenged will then compete in one heat against the challenger, where the losing team will be forced to give the winning team the amount of money specified in the bid, withdrawn from their challenge account. Or, if the team that is challenged does not want to compete, they can pay the challenging team half of the bid to forgo the round.
Then, for the next round, one of the teams that did not participate in that heat will be randomly selected to be the next challenger.
When a team has nothing left in their account, they are eliminated from the challenge.
Again, the last team standing, or the team with the most money in their account after fourteen heats will win the challenge—and all of the money in the kitty. If multiple teams are tied for the same amount of money after fourteen heats, they will compete in a sudden death round to determine the winner.
