So now that we finally understand the "transit time" with our flights, we are soooooooo relieved that we are not in the bottom three! Phew.
Nonetheless, we really need to pick up our game. Some of these teams are monsters! We actually really tried to do well this leg too. Oh man. Maybe we are not as invincible as we thought.
So the bottom three teams were Yellow, Red, and Silver. Yellow is supposedly our ally (I've never spoken to anyone in this game other than my partner Ryan and David from the Gold team). And Silver just sucks like shit. They look like two prepubescent teens whose time could better be spent watching Barney. They don't belong here. But we want to keep them because as long as they are here, we only have to worry about not being the second or third last teams at each pit stop. Sorry, Red.

I mostly agree with Elbert's assessment above. We were a bit delusional in our cockiness last round, which stemmed from placing strongly despite being distracted and not trying very hard. But it was silly of us to have the cognitive bias that "had we tried", the other teams would completely eat our dust. This is simply not the case - the other teams ahead of us this week are extremely formidable.
The question becomes... how do you do better than 100% effort?
I guess Elbert is right, in that a lot of it will come to transit time with our flights. Initially, I didn't think that they would be much of a factor: a 5 hour difference "in-flight", only translated to a 5 minute penalty, which would be negligible, OR SO I THOUGHT. Evidently, the four worst placing teams were only separated by a matter of minutes.
AND ELBERT IS TO BLAME FOR THIS, and we will certainly face the consequences in future rounds, but every plane ticket we bought has been a round trip so far, when you only need the price of a one-way ticket. Time is money, and money is time, anddddddddd I'm pretty sure we're fucked down the road.
But oh well! This game is so much fun, and thank you Host Ryan for being such an exceptionally diligent, enthusiastic, talented, and dedicated Host.

UMM EXCUSE ME? My round trip prices are just as cheap as the other team's one way trips!
Plus! You are the one who told me to choose the 10:30 AM flight over the 9:40 PM flight. So it is your fault we were 60 hours behind!
Get your facts straight, partner!

Host Ryan, are you allowed to comment here and tell my stupid partner that we in fact had a conversation about the fact that my round trip prices were just as cheap as the other teams's flights?
