Bonus Bucks Challenge
Time: Leg 2
Location: Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
Name: Lagoa de Letras (Lake of Letters) – Portuguese
Before the game, each team secretly selects eight letters from the English alphabet to comprise their private letter “inventory,” in order of preference, from most preferred letter (#1) to least preferred letter (#8).
The goal of the game is to be the last team standing with at least one letter left in their inventory.
The team that wins the game will earn all of the money contributed to the group kitty. The kitty will start at $100 (since 9 teams are remaining), and each participating team will add $100 to it.
The game will take place in “rounds.” Each round, one of the team members of a given team will pick one of the letters in their “inventory” to start a word. The next team in the order will select one of the letters in their inventory to start to complete that word. The “round” continues until either a word is completed, or a team does not have any letters in their inventory that they can add to the existing word segment that would continue to form an English word as identified by Dictionary.com.
If a team cannot add a letter to the existing word segment or adds a letter to the word segment that doesn’t continue to form an English word as identified by Dictionary.com, that team will lose their two least preferred (or highest numbered) letters still in their inventory, and it will be announced to the group. If they still have one or more letters remaining, they may begin the next round. Otherwise, they are eliminated, and the next team in the order begins the next round.
If a team’s letter addition completes a word of three or more letters, as recognized by Dictionary.com, then (1) they will begin the next round and (2) every team remaining in the game besides them will lose their least preferred (or highest numbered) letter still in their inventory. Any teams with zero letters remaining in their inventory are eliminated.
The order of teams will be selected at random.
Again, the last team standing wins the challenge—and all of the money in the kitty.
