Bonus Bucks Challenge
Time: Leg 7
Location: Venice, Italy
Name: Nel Buio (In the Dark) – Italian
Before the game, each team is secretly and randomly assigned a starting position on the game board and will be provided three “life points.”
The goal of the game is to unlock the “vault” holding the prize before the ninety-minute “detonator” is set to go off, all the while navigating a game board collecting “keys,” finding “relics” and “attacking” others.
The team that wins the game will earn all of the money contributed to the group kitty. The kitty will start at $600 (since 4 teams are remaining), and each participating team will add $100 to it.
The game will take place in “rounds,” during which each team will have one “turn.” Each turn, teams can move one space in any of the four cardinal directions (up, down, left right), or they can choose to stay on the same space (only if they are inserting a relic into the vault).
At the beginning of the game, each space is occupied by something different that teams can find as they navigate the game board:
• Four spaces will be the starting spaces for the teams.
• Three spaces will hold keys marked with one of the precious stones (ruby, sapphire, and emerald). If a team lands on a key, they can choose to leave it on the ground or pick it up and add it to their inventory.
• Three spaces will hold safes marked with one of the precious stones. If a team lands on a safe and has a matching key, they can use their key to open the safe, and from it, collect a platinum relic to add to their inventory.
• One space will hold the vault (a larger, platinum safe). If a team lands on the vault and has a relic, they can insert a relic into the vault lock (teams can only insert one relic per turn).
• Five spaces will hold mystery chests. If a team lands on a mystery chest they can choose to leave it on the ground or pick it up and either reap the rewards or face the consequences.
A team’s turn can proceed as follows:
• Remove any items from their inventory and put them on the ground of their CURRENT space.
• Pick up any items on the ground of their CURRENT space and add them to their inventory.
• Attack up to one team occupying their CURRENT space.
• THEN, move one space in any of the four cardinal directions (or remain on the same space, only if they are inserting a relic into the vault).
• Remove any items from their inventory and put them on the ground of their NEW space.
• Pick up any items on the ground of their NEW space and add them to their inventory.
• Insert a single key into a safe on their NEW space.
• Insert a single relic into the vault on their NEW space.
• Attack up to one team occupying their NEW space.
If one team occupies the same space as another team, and the team whose turn it is chooses to attack the other team, both teams will be asked a question about the game to date. The answer to the question is a number. The team with the closer number to the correct answer without going over wins the attack. In the case of both teams picking the same answer, the team to submit their answer fastest wins the attack. The team that wins the attack will collect all items in the losing teams inventory, including keys, relics, and chests. The team that loses the attack will lose one life point and be sent back to the space where they started the game (and if it was their turn, it is over).
If a team has zero life points remaining, they are eliminated from the challenge.
The order in which teams take their turns each round will be randomly selected for the first round, and the same order will be used for each round thereafter.
Again, the team who successfully inserts the third and final relic into the vault to release the prize will win the challenge—and all of the money in the kitty. If no team can insert the final relic into the vault in the allotted time before the vault detonates, then no team will win the challenge and the kitty is lost.
Mystery Chests:
• Helicopter. Choose any team (including yourself) and any space on the board to where you want the selected team to be relocated immediately, to be implemented once at any time of your choosing during your turn.
• Grenade. Throw a hand grenade, to be implemented once during an attack before the question is asked. You will automatically win the attack.
• Explosive Vest. Put on this vest laced in dynamite, to be implemented immediately. The one and only next time you attack or are attacked, you will automatically lose the attack before the question is asked.
• Mine. Place a mine on any space, to be implemented once at any time of your choosing during your turn. If a team is on the same space as a mine: they will lose a life point, anything in their inventory will be dropped to the ground, and they will be sent back to the space where they started the game. The mine will remain on the designated space until it detonates once.
• Satellite. View the entire game board, to be implemented once at any time of your choosing ONLY after at least one team has been eliminated. You will be told where each team is located, where each safe is located (along with their marked precious stone), if each safe has been opened or remains closed, where the vault is located, how many relics have been inserted into the vault, and if or where any keys (without being told their color) or mystery chests (without being told their contents) remain on the game board if they have not been collected.
As added incentive, in addition to being worth ~$1,000, the winning team will receive safety from the Speed Bump (both in the form of Side Track and Bad Karma) this upcoming leg, which is critical, with only four teams left, seeing as how being the only team or one of two teams to complete the Speed Bump could very well take you out of the running.

Fine, I just wanted an excuse to post a picture of the Rialto Bridge.
